Job Summary:
Performs dental assistant duties, assists dentist and/or dental hygienist; clean, sterilize, and arrange dental instruments. Will work under close supervision with minimal latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.
Essential Duties
Welcome and seats patients and prepares for dental procedure(s). Arrange dental instruments and materials for the patient dental procedure(s) providing additional assistance, as needed. Cleans, sterilizes, and assembles dental instruments following dental procedures or treatment. Assists dentists and/or dental hygienists, upon request. Responsible to operate dental x-ray equipment and prepare for Dentist to review. Assists in maintaining dental supply inventory. Assists in maintaining records, scheduling client appointments, and performing other clerical duties, as needed or identified. Perform other related functions, duties and projects in a dependable, cooperative, “team spirit”, manner as tasks are assigned.
Required Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of dental instruments, equipment, materials and their uses; knowledge of sterilization methods, x-ray techniques, dental terminology; and dental hygiene and prophylaxis. Ability to use dental instruments and equipment. Ability to assist staff in performing dental procedures and maintenance of records. Ability to communicate effectively and relate to public in a pleasing manner. Computer knowledge and ability are sufficient to enter patient information, as required. Maintain confidentiality of information and adhere to HIPAA guidelines. Ability to use mature judgment, in the performance of duties and to establish and maintain effective working relations with associates.
Education:
High School Graduate or equivalent. Prior Dental Assistant experience and Dental Certification preferred; experience and education may be substituted for one another. Dental X-Ray Certificate.
